Non-equilibrium phonon distribution caused by an electrical current

چکیده

Abstract In an attempt to explain flash sintering experiments, it had been proposed that the electron–phonon coupling leads a proliferation of short wave-length lattice vibrations in electric field. this paper we investigate by solving two coupled Boltzmann equations, describing free electron gas field scattering from crystal heat bath. The imposes cylindrical symmetry and drives electrons phonons into non-equilibrium steady state. We find phonon distribution shows strong excess population at Brillouin zone edge direction argue analytically, can be traced back shifted Fermi sphere for electrons. Furthermore, not only energy but also momentum is exchanged system, which defies any system two-temperature model.

Non-Equilibrium Phonon Distributions in Sub-100 nm Silicon Transistors

Intense electron-phonon scattering near the peak electric field in a semiconductor device results in nanometer-scale phonon hotspots. Past studies have argued that ballistic phonon transport near such hotspots serves to restrict heat conduction. We reexamine this assertion by developing a new phonon transport model. In a departure from previous studies, we treat isotropic dispersion in all phon...

Non-equilibrium phonon generation and detection in microstructure devices.

We demonstrate a method to excite locally a controllable, non-thermal distribution of acoustic phonon modes ranging from 0 to ~200 GHz in a silicon microstructure, by decay of excited quasiparticle states in an attached superconducting tunnel junction (STJ). The phonons transiting the structure ballistically are detected by a second STJ, allowing comparison of direct with indirect transport pat...

Current Distribution in Fused Electrical Networks

Electrical networks provide a natural model to study transport processes such us dielectric breakdown and metal insulator transition in disordered inhomogeneous conductors. We present a calculation for current distribution on an infinite hyper-cubic network due to an external applied current. This is used to compute, analytically, the redistribution of current due to variations in the conductan...

Non-equilibrium current via geometric scatterers

We investigate non-equilibrium particle transport in the system consisting of a geometric scatterer and two leads coupled to heat baths with different chemical potentials. We derive expression for the corresponding current the carriers of which are fermions and analyze numerically its dependence of the model parameters in examples, where the scatterer has a rectangular or triangular shape. PACS...
